Kryviy Rih technical University
Kryviy Rih technical University, the former Mining Institute, was founded in 1922. It got the status of university in 1994.
The University is one of the leading technical higher educational establishments of Ukraine. It trains specialists for many branches of the national economy of Ukraine.
The University trains specialists in 29 specialties. The total number of students is about 16000. They study at nine faculties.
The University is housed in 7 modern buildings. At the students' disposal there are many classrooms, laboratories, hostels and sport grounds.
The University library is the largest in a town. Its book stock is 1.000.000 volumes of socio-political, scientific and technical literature.
Kryviy Rih Technical University is a large research center, which conducts research programs for different branches of industry.
The main directions of research are mechanization and automation of industrial processes, industrial management, environmental protection and others. The scientists of our university maintain contracts with many countries of the world.
Great Britain
G.B is a highly developed industrial capitalist country. It is situated in the northwest of Europe. Тhe country is washed by the Atlantic Ocean, the North Sea and the Irish Sea. It is separated from Europe by the English Channel and the Straits of Dover. The territory of G.B is not very large, it is 244.000 square km. G.B. consists of 4 parts: England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. The capital of G.B. is London. The population is about 56 million.
The climate of G.B. is mild and warm, due to the warm current of Gulf Stream. The rivers are not long but they are deep. The main rivers in G.B. are Thames, the Severn, the Trent and some others. The Thames is the most important river, it is wide and deep and its current is slow. On the banks of the Thames there are London, Oxford and Greenwich. G.B is not very rich in useful minerals, that's why it has to import them from abroad.
From the political point of view G.B is a parliamentary monarchy. The government consists of king or queen and the Parliament. The British Parliament consists of the House of Lords and the House of Commons. The main political parties are the Labour Party, the Conservative and the Liberal. The prime minister of G.B is Anthony Blaire, he is the leader of the Labour party, which is at power at present.
G.B is a highly developed industrial country. It exports machinery, vessels, motors, computers and textile goods. It imports food products and raw materials from many countries of the world.
My working day
I get up at 6 o'clock and do my morning exercises. Then I go to the bathroom where I shave, clean my teeth and wash myself. Then I dress and have my breakfast. Usually I have a cup of tea or coffee. After breakfast I go to the bus stop, take a bus and go to the plant. I live far from the plant and it takes me 40 minutes to get there. My working day at the plant begins at 8 o’clock and lasts 8 hours. From 12 to 1 o'clock I have a break for dinner. I go to the dining room and have dinner there. After that I have a rest and then return to my working place and work till 5 o'clock. Then I go home. At home I rest and then get ready for lectures and classes. Sometimes I go to the University library and get ready for seminars at the University reading hall. At 7 o'clock 1 have supper and then if the weather is fine I go for a walk or if the weather is bad I watch TV programs. At 10 or 11 o'clock I go to bed.
Kryvyi Rih
Kiyviy Rih is a modern industrial city. It is situated on the banks of the Ingulets and the Saksagan rivers in the south east of Ukraine. It covers an area of 500 square kilometers and its length is over 100 kilometers.
Kryviy Rih was founded in 1775. At first it was a small settlement of no industrial importance. The industrial development of the town began at the end of the 19-th century after the discovery of rich iron ore deposits. The former small settlement has become a large industrial town. Today more than 700,000 people live and work in Kryviy Rih.
The largest industrial enterprise is the Mittal Steel. Its production is known and valued all over the world. I here are also many other industrial enterprises, among which there are many mines, quarries, coke and chemical combine, etc. All these enterprises make a great contribution to the economy of Ukraine.
Kryviy Rih is a large scientific and educational center. There are many scientific research institutes, many establishments of higher education, many technical, vocational and secondary schools. The largest higher educational is Kryviy Rih Technical University. The scientists of this university conduct research in different branches of science and engineering
Kryviy Rih is also a large cultural center. There are many cinemas, palaces of culture and two theatres. So, Kryviy Rih gives good opportunity for work and rest.
Ukraine
Ukraine is situated in the South East of Europe. It is one of the largest countries of Europe. Its territory is about 604,000 square kilometers. It borders on Russia, Moldova, Byelorussia, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and Romania. It is washed by the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov. It has many rivers, such as the Desna, the Dniester, the Bug and the others. The most important waterway is the Dnieper. Ukraine is very rich in useful minerals, such as: iron ore, coal, manganese and others. The population of Ukraine is about 46 million people and it is multinational. There are many cities in Ukraine. The largest of them are Kiev, Kharkiv, Odessa and Donetsk. From the political point of view Ukraine is a sovereign state. The highest body of state power is the Supreme Rada. The executive power is in the hands of the president. The state emblem of Ukraine is "tresub" and it has a long and very interesting history. The national flag of Ukraine consists of two stripes yellow and blue. Ukraine is one of the founding members of the United Nations Organization and takes part in many international organizations.
About myself and my family
First of all let me introduce myself. My name is Pavlo. I am 17 years old. I am a student of technical university. I was born in 1993 in Kryviy Rih. At the age of 7 I began to attend school. I studied many different subjects, but my favorite subjects were physics, mathematics, chemistry and history. I went in for sports. I liked to play football, basketball and volleyball. I took part in many competitions. After the 9-th form I entered the technical school and studied there during 3 years. After graduation from the technical school i worked at the plant. Then i decided to get higher education and entered the technical university. I study at the correspondence department. I shall get higher education in 6 years and shall work as electrical engineer at industrial enterprise. I am not married yet. I live with my parents. They are not old yet. They are 40 years old. They work at the same factory. I have got an elder sister. She is about 30, she is married. Her husband is an engineer. My sister's family is very happy.
My Day Off
I’m a first-year student of electronic (mechanical) department at Belarusian National Technical University. I study six days a week and don’t have much free time on week-days. So I look forward to the weekend when I can relax and have a rest. Usually I spend my day off with the people who are very close to me and whose company I always enjoy. These are my friends and relatives. Sometimes when I’m tired and don’t want to talk to anybody I spend my day off alone, reading a book or listening to music. But in general I’m for active rest.
There are many places you can go to like cinemas, theatres, museums, cafes, parties. You can also go out of town and enjoy fresh air and a change of scenery. A lot of men like to go fishing for a weekend. If the weather is cold or wet there are plenty of things to do indoors. You can read books, listen to music, watch TV, use the Internet, play computer games and so on. A day off for me is a nice possibility to escape from daily University routine. When a weekend comes I try very hard to have good time.
My weekend starts on Saturday afternoon. I think it’s the best time for rest and entertainment. I often go out with my friends on this day. We can go to a disco club or to a cafe or a park. Sometimes my friends visit me or I visit them and we have a chat about all kinds of things: music, books, films, the problems we may have at the University or at home and other things. My group-mates from other towns usually go to their home towns for a weekend.
On Sunday morning I don’t have to be in a hurry, so I get up later than usual. At 9 o’clock I take a dog for a walk, after that I often help my parents about the house. Then I spend some hours doing my homework. I’m fond of reading and music. These are my hobbies. As for reading I like adventure and detective stories. I find them exciting. Also most of my spare time I devote to music. I can play the guitar and I’ve got a nice collection of CDs. I have some friends who love music very much. We try to listen to different musical trends and waves just to know about music as much as possible. We can argue and have different "favourites" but what unites us is our understanding and love for music.
Sunday evening it’s time to get ready for Monday. Another week. So I usually have an early night. At 11 o’clock I’m already asleep.
My Day Off
Usually people look forward to weekends to have a rest and enjoy themselves. _"Work done-have your fun" the English proverb says. Life is very difficult now and it's necessary to gain enough energy for work. Some people prefer active rest- in summer they go to the forest, to the park - or to the river to swim to sunbathe, to have picnics, to walk. In winter they enjoy skiing and skating. Other people spend their days off playing computer games, reading books or watching TV or video films.
As for me my days off are normally like this. I am not an early riser, so i seldom get up before 9 o'clock. At weekends I don't have to hurry anywhere, so I enjoy staying in bed till 9 or even 10.
On Saturday morning I enjoy doing nothing and just relax: I listen to music, watch a soap opera, and make my plans for the weekend.
At about twelve I usually phone me friend and if the weather is fine we go out somewhere. In sprint, summer and even autumn we like to go camping in the forest. It is an excellent opportunity to relax and to admire the beauty of nature. We are of sitting round the fire. But if the weather is bad it is sometimes a problem where to go and what to do, because listening to music and watching TV all day long is boring. There is nothing more pleasant in rainy weather .than, to sit in comfortable armchair, read an interesting book or watch TV with a cup of coffee one hand and a big sandwich in the other. Sometimes I go to a cafe where I can meet my friends.
On Sunday mornings after breakfast 1 usually get ready for my classes. It takes me from 1 to 2 hours to do my homework.
Different people have different hobbies. As for me, I am fond of computers enjoy searching, surfing the net, and making friends by sending messages to young people all over the world. On Sunday evenings I get ready for the next working day and go to bed early. Unfortunately, time flies very quickly on weekends, the next Monday morning comes and I'm looking forward to my next days off.
