Background information on BAN activity in Portugal
The BAN activity in Portugal is still taking its first steps, and there isn’t any legal and official framework for this kind of investments. Gesventure introduced the business angel concept in Portugal and has worked with the public authorities since the end of the 1990’s.
APBA (Association of Portuguese Business Angels) was founded in 2006 with the aim of enhancing the recognition of the role and activities of business angels.

Since August 2005 Associaзгo Portuguesa de Investidores em Start-ups is producing documents to IAPMEI, APCRI (Portuguese Venture Capital Association) and CMVM (Portuguese Stock Exchange Market) about the legal and fiscal framework for business angels in Portugal.
APBA is working with the public administration to develop the best legal and fiscal framework for business angels in Portugal. APBA met several times with the Comissгo de Mercados de Valores Mobiliбrios - CMVM - (Stock Exchange Authority). CMVM has recently issued for public discussion a law project which contemplates a specific legal and fiscal framework for Business Angels.
