HURAY! I’M A STUDENT!

VGIK is the world’s oldest media university. It was founded in 1919.

There are 6 departments in VGIK: Film and Television Direction, Sound Design, Screenwriting and Film Studies, Film and Television Producing, Production and Costume Design, Cinematography, Acting, Animation and Computer Graphics. I am a first-year student of the Film Directing Department. I’m really serious about working professionally in the film industry. I dream of becoming a famous film director.

Our schedule is very busy. We have lectures in the morning and practical classes in the afternoon. I do my homework in the evening. We do a lot of subjects, such as Literature, Film History, History of Theatre, Philosophy, Cultural Studies, as well as Film Directing, Scenic Speech, Producing, Photography, Set Design and others. Personally, I like Art History very much. I try not to miss classes and come in time because I want to get as much knowledge as possible. Twice a year all students take exams. I hope I pass them all.

I often have to stay at university till late at night because of numerous screenings. Twice a week we have screenings in Modern Film where we see the latest achievements of Russian and foreign filmmakers. We also take part in rehearsals and discussions. What’s good is that we learn how to work as part of a team.

I know that my career doesn’t only depend on my talent and good luck, I also need good education and practical skills. That’s why I work so hard.
