Our College

Let me introduce myself. I’m a student of Zaporizhzhya Teacher Training College. I’ll take you round the college. I’d like to start with brief information about the history of our college.

It was established 120 years ago & is considered to be one of the oldest institutions in the region. Our college trains nursery & primary school teachers as well as specialists in art. Our college holds over 600 students & 96 teachers. Our classes start at eight & usually are over at half past two. We study five days a week from Monday to Fridays. Attendance at all lectures & practical classes is compulsory. A student who is not regular in attendance or fail exams is liable for cancellation.

There are three departments in our college, Preschool department, Primary School & Art departments. Students may choose to receive both full-time & part-time education here. ZPC is a state supported educational establishment. Studying here is free of charge. It means that our students don’t pay for their education. Students who succeed in their studies & exams get stipend (scholarship).

The college consists of two buildings, the main one & a workshop. There is also a sports ground behind the college building. The main building is three-storeyed.

I believe it would be better to begin the excursion from the ground floor where the administrative sector is situated. The most important problems of our college are solved in the office of our principal O. M. Melnyk. Our deans’ offices & a staff room are also on the ground floor.

Here one can find a canteen where our students & teachers can have a bite during a long break after the second double-period. It lasts forty minutes. We can buy cooked lunches with a choice of menu being provided or bring packed ones.

Near the canteen there is a gym where we have PT lessons & all sorts of competitions. Our students as well as our teachers are always welcomed there. In fact, there are three gyms in our college.

The museum upstairs gives a full coverage of college’s history. Meetings with guests are sometimes held there.

Parties & meetings are held in the lobby & assembly hall. Our students decorate them for special occasions to make them look more attractive & festively. In the lobby students also exhibit their creative works, place wall papers & announcements.

Besides, there is a library & a reading room there. They provide us with a lot of books, newspapers, journals & magazines both for our studies & interests.

Our classrooms & laboratories are equipped with modern teaching materials, devices & facilities. Our students study there various educational & special subjects, like languages, literature, history, geography, chemistry, mathematics, physics, computer science, handicrafts, psychology, etc.

Actually, our student life extends far beyond the classroom. Extracurricular activities include a wide range of sporting, cultural, public undertakings through various clubs & societies which are freely open to everyone.

The only trouble with some of his football players was their bad 9 knowledge of many school subjects. The sportsmen were often poor at Mathematics & English. It was not always easy for them to study.

I’ll try to describe you my typical working day, although every day has its variations. In the morning my alarm clock wakes me up at half-past five. As I am not an early riser I hate getting up at the dawn. But I have to if I don’t want to be late to college. Every morning I scufflewith the temptationto go on sleeping & to stay from college for at least one day. But alas truancy is punished rather severely. And as I try to avoid various complications I have to drag myself out of my bed. I put on my dressing gown & go to the bathroom to take a shower. Every evening I promise myself to take a cool shower in the morning to obtain two goals – to be healthy & to quickly wake up. But in the morn I always forget about such nonsense. I clean my teeth, comb my hair (do my hair) & make my way to the kitchen. I switch on some music, make coffee or tea, some sandwiches with sausage, cheese or ham. Pleasant music & hot coffee let me in the high spirit & reconcile me with the necessity of early getting up.

My classes start at 8 sharp but we have to be at place at a quarter to 8. So I rush to take a bus. It takes me half an hour to get to college. Sometimes I’m late at college. In this case I console myself with the thought of revenging over those who noticed my being slightly late.

According to the scheduleI have not less than 4 double lessons a day. Some days even more. As far as I am always ready with all my home assignments, I am almost constantly in a good mood. If I need some book for my studies, our library is at our disposal. It is rather well stocked with all necessary books. After the second double lessons we have a rather long break for lunch. It lasts 40 minutes.

After classes I have some extracurricular activities either at college or out. I return home & have my supper. Sometimes I take a short nap & then start doing my home assignments.
