CURIOWill you go hunt, my lord?

ORSINO What, Curio?

CURIO The hart.

ORSINO Why, so I do, the noblest that I have:O, when my eyes did see Olivia first, it seemed to me she purged the air of pEstilence! That instant was I turned into a hart; and my desires ever since pursue me.

SCENE 2

I told him you were asleep; he seems to have a foreknowledge of that too, and therefore comes to speak with you. What is to be said to him, lady? he's fortified against any denial.

OLIVIA What kind o' man is he?

MALVOLIO Why, of mankind.

OLIVIA What manner of man?

MALVOLIO Of very ill manner; he'll speak with you, will you or no.

OLIVIA Let him approach: call in my gentlewoman.

MALVOLIO Gentlewoman, my lady calls.

OLIVIA Give me my veil. We'll once more hear Orsino's embassy.

VIOLA The honourable lady of the house, which is she?

OLIVIA If I do not usurp myself, I am. I heard you were saucy at my gates, and allowed your approach rather to wonder at you than to hear you. If you be not mad, be gone; if you have reason, be brief. So speak your office.

VIOLA It alone concerns your ear. My words are as full of peace as matter.

OLIVIA Give us the place alone: we will hear this

divinity.

OLIVIA Now, sir, what is your text?

VIOLA Most sweet lady,--

VIOLA If I did love you in my master's flame, with such a suffering, such a deadly life, in your denial I would find no sense; I would not understand it.

OLIVIA Why, what would you?

VIOLA Make me a willow cabin at your gate, and callupon my soul within the house; write loyal cantons of contemned love and sing them loud even in the dead of night; halloo your name to the reverberate hills and make the babbling gossip of the air cry out 'Olivia!'

OLIVIA You might do much. What is your parentage?

VIOLA Above my fortunes, yet my state is well: I am a

gentleman.

OLIVIA Get you to your lord; I cannot love him: let him send no more;(делает паузу, украдчиво смотрит на Виолу), unless, perchance, you come to me again, to tell me how he takes it.

VIOLA Love make his heart of flint that you shall love; and let your fervor like my master's, be placed in contempt! Farewell, fair cruelty.

Виола уходит со сцены быстро, даже в гневе !

OLIVIA Let it be. What ho, Malvolio!

MALVOLIO Here, madam, at your service.

OLIVIA Run after that same peevish messenger, the county's man: he left this ring. Desire him not to flatter with his lord, I am not for him: if that the youth will come this way tomorrow, I'll give him reasons for it: hurry up.

MALVOLIO Madam, I will.

SCENE 3

MALVOLIO Is this you who have just been to the Countess Olivia?

VIOLA Me,ser..

MALVOLIO She returns this ring to you, sir. Receive it.

VIOLA This is not mine

MALVOLIO Come, sir, you peevishly threw it to her; and her will is, it should be so returned: if it be worth stooping for, there it lies in your eye (бросает кольцо на пол и указывает на него); if not, be it his that finds it.

Мальволио уходит.

VIOLA I left no ring with her: what means this lady?She made good view of me; indeed, so much, that sure it seems to me that her eyes had lost her tongue, for she did speak in starts distractedly.

She loves me, sure. if it be so, as 'tis, poor lady, she were better love a dream.

She thinks I’m a man, but I’m a woman!

O time! you must untangle this, not I; it is too hard a knot for me to untie!

SCENE 4 (ПРО ПИСЬМО МАЛЬВОЛИО)

FESTE O mistress mine, where are you roaming?

O, stay and hear; your true love's coming,

SIR ANDREW Excellent good.

SIR TOBY Good, good.

SIR ANDREW A magnisicent voice.

SIR TOBY A contagious breath.

SIR ANDREW Very sweet and contagious.But shall we make the welkin dance indeed? shall we rouse the night? shall we do that?

SIR ANDREW An you love me, let's do't: I am dog at a catch.

FESTE By our lady, sir, and some dogs will catch well.

SIR ANDREW Most certain. Let our catch be, you knave.

 

Начинается веселье, музыка, пьяные выкрики среди ночи. Вбегает Мария в шоке:

MARIA What a caterwauling do you keep here! If my lady have not called up her steward Malvolio and bid him turn you out of doors, never trust me.

SIR TOBY My lady's a Cataian, we are politicians, Malvolio’s a Peg-a-Ramsey.

Под музыку сэр Тоби берет Марию за талию и начинает кружить в танце, желательно пьяном =)

FESTE Beshrew me, the knight's in admirable fooling.

MARIA For the love of God, peace!

Входит Мальволио с надменным видом. Все по-тихоньку перестают танцевать, кроме сэра Эндрю, который еще не въехал, продолжает танцевать, пока тоже не замечает Мальволио.

MALVOLIO My masters, are you mad? or what are you? Have you no wit, manners, nor honesty, but to gabble like tinkers at this time of night? Is there no respect in you?

SIR TOBY We did keep time, sir, in our catches. Sneck up!

MALVOLIO Sir Toby, I must be round with you. My lady bade me tell you, that, though she harbours you as her kinsman, she's nothing allied to your disorders. If you can separate yourself and your faults, you are welcome to the house; if not, she is very willing to bid you farewell.

SIR TOBY (насмешливо)Farewell, dear heart.

MARIA Nay, good Sir Toby.

FESTE His eyes do show his days are almost done.

MALVOLIO Is’t even so?

SIR TOBY But I will never die.

FESTE Sir Toby, there you lie.

MALVOLIO This is much credit to you.

SIR TOBY Shall I bid him go?

FESTE What an if you do?

SIR TOBY Shall I bid him go, and spare not?

FESTE O no, no, no, no, you dare not.

SIR TOBY Go, sir, rub your chain with crumbs. A stoup of wine, Maria!

MALVOLIO Mistress Mary, if you prized my lady's favour at any thing more than contempt, you would not give means for this uncivil rule: she shall know of it, by this hand.

 

Мальволио уходит, но до него долетают слова Марии:

 

MARIA Go shake your ears.

 

и он немного оборачивается и потом уходит совсем. Сэр Тоби обнимает Марию и смеется.

 

SIR ANDREW It’s a good deal to make a fool of him!

MARIA I know how to do it.

SIR TOBY Possess us, possess us; tell us something of him.

MARIA Marry, sir, sometimes he is a kind of puritan.

SIR ANDREW O, if I thought that I would beat him like a dog!

SIR TOBY What, for being a puritan?

MARIA The devil a puritan that he is, an affectioned ass, he thinks, with excellencies, that it is his grounds of faith that all that look on him love him; and that vice wil help us play a trick on him.

SIR TOBY What will you do?

MARIA I will drop in his way some obscure epistles of love; where he shall find himself most feelingly personated. I can write very like my lady your niece.

SIR TOBY Excellent! I smell a device.

SIR ANDREW O, it will be admirable!

MARIA For this night, to bed,and dream on the event. Farewell.

SIR TOBY Good night, dear.

SIR ANDREW Before me, she’s a good wench.

SIR TOBY She’s a beagle, true-bred, and one that adores me.

SIR ANDREW I was adored once too…(сэр Эндрю задумывается. Тоби берет его за рукав и выводит со сцены).

СЛОВА АВТОРА (пока в одном доме веселье, в другом – неугасающая страсть борется с горечью потери. Орсино пытается удержать любовь Оливии, посылая Цезарио к ней)

SCENE 4 (ГОЛУБАЯ ЛУНА)

DUKE ORSINO Once more, Cesario, go to her, tell her, my love is more noble than the world. It is that miracle and queen of gems that nature pranks her in attracts my soul.

VIOLA But if she cannot love you, sir?

DUKE ORSINO I cannot be so answered.

VIOLA Sooth, but you must. Imagne that some lady, as perhaps there is, has for your love a great a pang of heart as you have for Olivia: you cannot love her; you tell her so; must she not then be answer'd?

DUKE ORSINO There is no woman who can bide the beating of so strong passion as love does give my heart; no woman’s heart so big, to hold so much.Alas, their love may be called appetite.

VIOLA Ay, but I know—

DUKE ORSINO What do you know?

VIOLA Too well what love women to men may owe: in faith, they are as true of heart as we. (пауза) My father had a daughter loved a man.

DUKE ORSINO And what's her history?

VIOLA A blank, my lord. She never told her love, but let concealment: she pined in thought, and with a green and yellow melancholy she sat like patience on a monument, smiling at grief. Was not this love indeed? We men may say more, swear more: but indeed our shows are more than will.

DUKE ORSINO But died your sister of her love, my boy?

VIOLA I am all the daughters of my father’s house…and all the brothers too. (пауза) And yet I know not. Sir, shall I to this lady?

DUKE ORSINO Ay, that's the theme. To her in haste; give her this jewel; say, my love can give no place, bide no denay.

MARIA I know this letter will make a contemplative idiot of him. Close, in the name of jesting (закрывает письмо)! Lie you there, (Бросает письмо на пол) for here comes the trout that must be caught with tickling. Мария уходит.

 

Входит Мальволио.

 

MALVOLIO It is but fortune; all is fortune. Maria once told me she did affect me. Besides, she uses me with a more exalted respect than any one else that follows her. What should I think on it?

SIR ANDREW Fie on him!

FABIAN O, peace! now he's deeply in.

MALVOLIO Call my officers about me, having come from a day-bed, where I have left Olivia sleeping,

SIR TOBY Fire and brimstone!

FABIAN O, peace, peace!

SCENE 6

На сцене уже Виола, ждет Оливию. Входит Оливия, за ней бежит сэр Эндрю:

SER ANDREW Lady, my lady, I...

OLIVIA Let the garden door be shut, and leave me to my hearing. (резко отворачивается от Сэра Эндрю, тот в шоке и обиде уходит со сцены)

VIOLA Good day to you, my Countess!

OLIVIA Give me your hand, sir.

VIOLA Madam, I come to whet your gentle thoughts on my Count’s behalf.

OLIVIA O, by your leave, I pray you, I bade you never speak again of him: but, would you undertake another suit, I had rather hear you to solicit that than music from the spheres.

VIOLA Dear lady,--

OLIVIA Give me leave, what might you think? To one of your receiving enough is shown: a cypress, not a bosom, hideth my heart. So, let me hear you speak.

VIOLA I pity you.

OLIVIA That's a degree to love.

VIOLA No, it is a vulgar proof, that very often we pity enemies.

OLIVIA Why, then, it seems to me it’s time to smile again. Be not afraid, good youth, I will not have you: and yet, when wit and youth is come to harvest, your wife is alike to reap a proper man: there lies your way, due west.

SIR ANDREW No, I'll not stay a jot longer here!

SIR TOBY What is the reason?

SIR ANDREW Marry, I saw your niece do more favours to the count's serving-man than ever she bestowed upon me; I saw it in the orchard.

SIR TOBY Did she see you the while, old boy? tell me

that.

SIR ANDREW As plain as I see you now.

FABIAN This was a great argument of love in her

toward you.

SIR ANDREW Will you make an ass of me?

FABIAN She did show favour to the servant in your sight only to exasperate you, to put fire in your heart. You should then have accosted her. Buuut you didn’t. Now you can attract her attention just by some loudable attempt either of valour or policy !

SIR ANDREW It must be with valour. For policy I hate…

SIR TOBY Then, challenge the count's youth to fight with you; hurt him in eleven places: my niece shall take note of it.

FABIAN There is no way but this, Sir Andrew.

SIR ANDREW Will either of you bear me a challenge

to him?

SIR TOBY Go, write a letter to him, be crust and brief: taunt him with the licence of ink:

SEBASTIAN My kind Antonio, I can no other answer

make but thanks, and thanks. My bosom is full of kindness to you. You’ve saved me from the breach of the sea, where my sister drowned…

ANTONIO Alas the day!

SEBASTIAN She much resembled me, was yet of many accounted beautiful and fair.She is drowned already, sir, with salt water, though I seem to drown her remembrance again with more.

ANTONIO Pardon me, sir, your bad entertainment.

SEBASTIAN O good Antonio, forgive me your trouble.

ANTONIO If you will not murder me for my love, let me be your servant.

SEBASTIAN I’m bound to the Count Orsino’s court. I have to go there.

ANTONIO The gentleness of all the gods go with you! I have many enemies in Orsino's court, else would I very shortly see you there. Hold ser, here is my purse. You might need it!

SEBASTIAN I’ll be your purse-bearer, Thank you !

ANTONIO Oh, I adore you so, that danger shall seem sport, and maybe I will see you in Orsino’s Court! Farewell!

SCENE 9

MALVOLIO 'Be not afraid of greatness:' it was well

written.

OLIVIA What do you mean by that, Malvolio?

MALVOLIO 'Some are born great,'--

OLIVIA Ha!

MALVOLIO 'Some achieve greatness,'--

OLIVIA What do you say?

MALVOLIO 'And some have greatness thrust upon

them.'

OLIVIA Heaven restore you!

MALVOLIO 'Remember who commended my yellow

stockings,'—

OLIVIA Your yellow stockings!

MALVOLIO 'Go to your art made, if you desir to

be so;'--

OLIVIA Have I made?Why, this is very midsummer madness.

 

Входит Фэст.

 

FESTE Madam, the young gentleman of the Count Orsino's is returned: he attends your ladyship's pleasure.

FABIAN Here he is, here he is. How is it with you,

sir?

MALVOLIO Go off; I discard you: let me enjoy my

private: go off.

MARIA Sir Toby, my lady prays you to have

a care of him.

MALVOLIO Ah, ha! does she so?

SIR TOBY What, man! defy the devil:

consider, he's an enemy to mankind.

MALVOLIO Do you know what you say?

MARIA La you, an you speak ill of the devil, how he

takes it at heart!

MALVOLIO Go, hang yourselves all! you are idle

shallow things: I am not of your element: you shall

know more hereafter.

 

Мальволио уходит с гордо поднятой головой .

 

SIR TOBY Is it possible?Let’s have him in a dark room and bound.

FABIAN Why, we shall make him mad indeed.

SIR TOBY My niece is already in the belief that he's mad: we may carry it thus, for our pleasure and his penance.

Все его поддерживают «Let's do it», ржут.

Вбегает Сэр Эндрю:

SER ANDREW.’ Here’s the letter. Will you give it to this gull messenger?

MARIA You may have very fit occasion for it: he is

now in some commerce with my lady.

SIR TOBY I will! Now Go, Sir Andrew: scout me for him at the corner the orchard: so soon as ever you see him, draw; and, as you draw swear horrible. And wait foe me here! Away!

SIR ANDREW I will!!

SIR TOBY Now will not I deliver his letter, the youth will find it comes from a clodpole. But, sir, I will deliver his challenge by word of mouth and drive the gentleman into a most hideous opinion of his rage, skill, fury and impetuosity. The same I’ll tell Ser Andrew ! This will so fright them both that they will kill one another by the look.

FABIAN Here he comes with your niece: give them way till he take leave, and presently after him.

SIR TOBYI will meditate the while upon some horrid message for a challenge.

 

SCENE 11

SIR TOBY Gentleman, God save you.

VIOLA And you, sir.

SIR TOBY I don’t know what wrong have you done to him, but your assailant, full of despite, bloody as the hunter, attends you at the orchard-end.

Выходит сэр Эндрю. Сэр Тоби подходит к нему. Виола и Фабиан стоят в одном конце сцены, Тоби и Эндрю в другом, типо не вместе.

Входит Антонио, видит драку, орет:

VIOLA I know of none; nor know I you by voice or any

feature.

ANTONIO O heavens themselves!

Second Officer Come, sir, I pray you, go.

ANTONIO Let me speak a little. This youth that you see here I snatched out of the jaws of death, relieved him with such sanctity of love, and he seemed to me so devoted. Thank you , Sebastian…

First Officer The man grows mad: away with him! Come, come, sir.

На сцене Себастьян и Фэст

Вбегает сэр Эндрю и Тоби:

Вбегает Оливия, в шоке:

SIR TOBY Madam!

Короче такая тема: Мальволио заперли в клетке, накрытой черной тканью и вывозят на сцену, он плачет, кричит.

К нему подходит Фест, под видом священника, Мария рядом:

FESTE Well, I'll put it on, and I will dissemble myself

In it. (говорит МАрии – одевая шляпу священника).

MARIA:Jove bless you , Master!

Фест Подходит к клетке:

FESTE What, ho, I say! peace in this prison!

MALVOLIO Who calls there?

FESTE Sir Topas the priest, who comes to visit Malvolio the lunatic.

MALVOLIO Sir Topas, Sir Topas, good Sir Topas,

go to my lady.

MARIA Well said, Master Parson.

MALVOLIO Sir Topas, good Sir Topas, do not think I am mad: they have laid me here in hideous darkness.

FESTE Master Malvolio?

MALVOLIO Good fool, help me to some light and some paper: I tell you, I am as well in my wits as any man in Illyria.

FESTE I will help you to do it. But tell me true, are you not mad indeed?

MALVOLIO Believe me, I am not mad; I tell you true.

FESTE Nay, I'll never believe a madman till I see his brains.

He shall conceal it whiles you are willing it shall come to note. What do you say?

OLIVIA Then lead the way, good father; and heavens so shine, that they may fairly note this act of mine!

Входят 2 офицера и Антонио

ORSINO Come, away!

Все в шоке. Виола и Себастьян ,наконец, встречаются взглядом.

VIOLA My father had a mole upon his brow.

SEBASTIAN And so had mine.

SEBASTIAN O, that record is lively in my soul!

VIOLA If nothing lets to make us happy both, do cohere and jump that I am Viola. And all the occurrence of my fortune since has been between this lady and this lord.

Наконец-то до них дошло, что они брат и сестра: обнимаются, типо плачут.

Себастьян подходит к ошарашенной Оливии:

Обнимает Оливию.

 

ORSINO (подходит к Оливии и Себастьяну, которые обнимаются типо J )Now everything is clear, for what I feel myself so happy! And I can wish you just happiness and love !

(подходит к Виоле, которая стоит к нему спиной) Boy, you have said to me a thousand times how a woman can love me with all her heart meaning yourself…?

VIOLA And all those sayings will I overswear.

ORSINO Give me your hand Your master quits you…(Виола поворачивается к нему медленно )and since you’ve called me master for so long, here is my hand: you shall from this time be your master's mistress. (обнимашки-целовашки у Орсино и Виолы ^_^ )

До Оливии наконец дошло, она подходит к Виоле:

OLIVIA A sister! you are she. (тоже обнимаются и возвращаются к своим хахалям)

(хэппи-энд, ёпт, все обнимаются и целуются – по желанию ;)

 

Выходят ВСЕ!, пляшут, радуются, хлопают в ладоши, короче все очень мило, все дико рады !

Но ! К Оливии подходит Фэст, без слов дает ей письмо. И она такая:

Olivia: From Malvolio?

 

Появляется Мальволио, весь в саже, грязный, непричесанный, с обиженным видом, короче явно где-то шлялся. Все затихли, Оливия чуть-чуть в шоке:

 

OLIVIA: Oh, no! Malvolio!

MALVOLIO Madam, you have done me wrong,

notorious wrong.

OLIVIA Have I, Malvolio? no.

MALVOLIO Lady, you have. Pray you, peruse that

letter.

(пока Оливия втыкает , что это за письмо, Мальволио толкает трогательную речь):

MALVOLIO: Why? Why did you do with me so? Why did I have to smile and …wear my yellow stockings? Why was I locked in the darkness, where I was sitting as in cage? Some priest came to me and began joking at me (указывает на священника, а тот такой в шоке) ! Why? For what all that?

OLIVIA Alas, Malvolio, this is not my writing, Though, I confess, much like the character but out of question it is Maria's hand., it was she first told me you was mad…

FABIAN Good madam, hear me speak, most freely I confess, myself and Toby set this device against Malvolio here. Maria wrote the letter at Sir Toby's great importance; in recompense where of he has married her.

OLIVIA Alas, poor fool, how have they baffled you!

MARIA Why, some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrown upon them.'

SER TOBY Do you remember saying: “You are idle shallow things: I’m not of your element! And thus the whirligig of time brings in his revenges.

MALVOLIO I'll be revenged on the whole pack of you.

Мальволио уходит с гордо поднятой головой, но все лахают, только тихо, типо посмеиваются .
