Control and evaluation of learning outcomes

7.1 Types of evaluation

During discipline studying such kinds of control are provided: current, mid-term, final exam.

Forms of evaluation

During discipline studying such forms of control are provided: check of writing-books, test tasks, execution of situational tasks, performance of written works, protection of abstracts and so forth. The lecturer applies (without preliminary prevention) various kinds of control which are directed for fastening of lecture, for example, front poll.

The results of the above-mentioned kinds of control will be included in the final evaluation that expresses general understanding of a material. For qualitative mastering of the course the learner by himself should read 30-50 pages per week. In order to properly calculate the overall assessment of the learner’s knowledge they are evaluated on mid-term control (rating) as a percentage from 0 to 100 %.

The basic criteria of an evaluation:

- References to sources of research and scientific style;

- Disclosing of essence of an investigated problematic and logical sequence of a statement;

- Operating by the categorical device of studied discipline.

All kinds of works are evaluated on percentage and expressed in points. Following principles are put in a policy of knowledge evaluation:

- Objectivity

- Transparency

Knowledge and skills of students are evaluated by the following system:

Evaluation by letter system Number equivalents of points Percentage Evaluation by traditional system
А 4,0 95-100 excellent
А- 3,67 90-94
В+ 3,33 85-89 good
В 3,0 80-84
В- 2,67 75-79
С+ 2,33 70-74 satisfactory
С 2,0 65-69
С- 1,67 60-64
D+ 1,33 55-59
D 1,0 50-54
F 0-49 unsatisfied

Course requirements

1) Class attendance is compulsory.

2) The learner should work with primary sources in order to be able to analyze, and take an active part in the discussion during classroom.

3) Completed assignments must be submitted on time. Assignments submitted after the due date without an extension of time given by the lecturer will attract a penalty of two percentage points per day (for example, if your essay deserves a grade of 82 and it is 2 days late, you will be given a grade of 78). Extension will be granted only on medical or compassionate grounds.

4) Discipline and Ethics shall comply with Charter of L.N. Gumilyov ENU.

Special remarks:

Plagiarism and dishonest practice are not allowed. Plagiarism occurs when passages of text are copied into paperwork without being included in quotation marks and without sufficient acknowledgement of the source for the quotation. Minor variations to the wording of the original are not sufficient to avoid the charge of plagiarism. Any paperwork in which significant plagiarism occurs will not be given a passing grade. If a substantial proportion of the paperwork is plagiarized, it will receive a zero grade.
