MY FLAT
We live in a new 16-storeyed block of flats. It's situated in a very picturesque place. There's a big supermarket on the ground floor and it's very convenient to do everyday shopping.
Our flat is on the fifth floor. It's very comfortable and well-planned. We have all modern conveniences, such as central heating, electricity, gas, cold and hot running water and a telephone. There are three rooms, a kitchen, a bathroom and a hall in our flat. There's also a balcony and we can enjoy a lovely view of the river.
The largest room in our flat is the living room and we use it as a dining room and as a sitting room. In the middle of the room there is a big table and six chairs round it. Opposite the window there is a wall unit with lots of books, a TV-set and a video cassette recorder. There are two comfortable armchairs and a small coffee table in the right-hand corner. There is also a sofa and an electric fire in our living room. We like the living room best of all, because in the evenings we gather there to have tea, watch TV, talk and rest.
My room is the smallest room in our flat, but it is very cosy and light. There is a bed, a wardrobe, a desk, an armchair and several bookshelves in my room. There is a thick carpet on the floor. The walls in my room are light-brown and there are some big posters on them. I like my room very much, but from time to time I change it round. I quite often move the bed and change the posters on the wall.
Our kitchen is large and light. It is very well-equipped. We have got a refrigerator, a freezer, a microwave oven, a coffeemaker and a toaster. We haven't got a dishwasher yet, because it is very expensive. But I'm sure we shall buy it in the near future.

MY WORKING DAY
Usually I get up at 7 o`clock on week-days. I do my bed and open the window. Sometimes I do my morning exercises, but not always. Then I go to the bathroom. There I wash myself and clean my teeth. Sometimes I take a shower. After that I go back to my bedroom, dress myself and brush my hair. In five minutes I am ready for breakfast. I usually have a cup of tea or coffee and a sandwich. After breakfast I take my bag, put on my coat and go to the college.
I live not far from my college and it takes me only ten minutes to walk there. I am never late for the first lesson because I come to the college a few minutes before the bell. I leave my coat in the cloakroom and go to the classroom. The lessons begin at eight o`clock and at half past one they are over. Sometimes after the lessons I go to the library to take some books. I usually do my hometask at home. As a rule, I have no free time on my week-days.
Sometimes I have dinner at my college canteen. For dinner I usually have soup for the first course, meat or fish with some salad for the second. I drink milk or a cup of tea.
Twice a week I go to the swimming pool. I play volleyball in the college team and we have our training at our big gymnasium.
In the evening all the members of our family get together. We have supper together, watch TV or read books. Reading is my hobby. I like to read detective stories or books of modern writers. At about eleven o`clock I go to bed.

EDUCATION IN THE USA
The US system of education is the following:
1. Elementary school (for 6-12 years old). Children start elementary school at 6 and continue until they are 12. It usually includes the first six grades - from the first grade to the sixth grade. But sometimes elementary school includes the first four or eight grades. In general they study English, the History of the USA, Elementary Mathematics and Natural Science.
2. High School. A high school is usually of two parts: Junior High School (for 12-15 years old, grades 7-9) and Senior High School (for 15-18 years old, grades 10-12). Students of high school study many subjects and finally they receive a certificate of graduation. They also take part in a great number of outside classroom activities such as different kinds of sport, drama groups, orchestras and many others.
3. Higher Schools (4 years of study). Those are universities and colleges of higher education. During the first 2 years of study the students follow somewhat basic program. After the first two years each student majors in one subject and minors in another. For example, you may major in History and minor in Sociality.
After 4 years of study the students receive bachelor's degree. A degree is a title conferred upon students by a college or a university. It may be either a S.B. (Bachelor of Science) or A.B. (Bachelor of Arts).
After receiving a bachelor's degree a student may have professional studies for 2 years more at graduation school. In this case he or she receives a master's degree.
