Translate into English:

1. Больная старушка опиралась на руку медсестры – сесть было негде (3). A senior leant on a nurse’s arm - there weren't enough seats / some people had to stand / you couldn't sit down

2. Ты не понимаешь с кем имеешь дело, он же наемный убийца. – You do not understand who you are dealing with, he is a hit man.

3. От души желаю вам удачи! I wish you good luck with all my heart.

4. В душе я чувствую, что он злится на меня за то, что я не принял его приглашения. Но я так занята (3) in my heart/ at heart/ at bottom I feel that he is angry that I didn’t accept his invitation. There’s no way I can / I just can’t make it / I didn’t know if I’m coming and going.

5. Они уже много лет живут душа в душу. They’ve been living in harmony/get along beautifully for many years already.

6. Эта книга берет за душу. А учитель зануда.Мне неинтересно, о чем он говорит. This book touches to your heart/ tugs at your’ heartstrings. But the teacher is a real bore / an extremely tiring speaker. I‘m not interested in what he’s talking about..

7. Он умный человек, но такой неудачник - ему постоянно не везет в делах. Да это место ему не суждено – судьба неумолима (2) He's a smart / intelligent person, still a loser. he always unlucky in business. he'll have a failure to get this position. Inexorable/ relentless fate/ I guess this job wasn't in the cards for him.

8. Она считает соблюдение диеты жизнеутверждающим испытанием. He believes that the dieting is a life-affirming experience.

9. Вчера его уволили, у него на работе происходит сокращение штатов – но это неправда (2). He was fired yesterday. There was downsizing/ rationalizing of work force at the job- but that’s not true / that’s not the case.

10. Он веселый человек и знает массу анекдотов, да и часто прибегает к вранью (3). He is a very positive person/ he is always upbeat/he’s got a great sense of humor. He plays false with smb/ twisting / bending the truth/ lying to himself.

11. Дашь мне списать контрольную, свою шпаргалку я забыл дома. Will you give me to copy off / from your test / cheat? I’ve left my crib sheet behind.

12.Он очень мягкий человек (3) – вру, она, он как раз злой(3) и тяжелый(3) человек He is very gentle/ weak person/ rather weak- I’m sorry, I mean he is a nasty piece of business/ he’s bad news/ he’s awful/ he’s an awful/terrible/ horrible/ person and he is a difficult case, hard/ rough to deal with / tough guy.

13.Язык, свободный от предрассудков (предубеждений), привел к созданию лингвистически корректного поведения. Bias-free language led to linguistically correct behavior.

20.Не следует (2) пить слишком холодное, нельзя (2)давать ребенку мороженое и не надо (2) говорить ей, что она плохо выглядит. It’s not a good idea to drink smth cold, don’t give the child any ice cream and there is no need to/don’t tell her that she looks horrible.

21.Не надо мне помощи – сам справлюсь, хотя понимаю, что фильмнеудачный (3)I don’t need/ want any help! I’ll deal with/ cope with/ take care of/ this problem on my own/ myself although I realize that the film didn’t work/the director didn’t pull his one off/ didn’t do a good job on this one.

22.Не надо(2) напоминать мне – я и так чувствую себя неудобно (3)There is no point/ you don’t have to keep/ telling me every day- I feel awkward/ I don’t feel comfortable/ quite right/ I feel funny about it/ I’m not sure it’s appropriate for me.

28.мы неслучайно учим эту лексику (3): не секрет (3), что переводчик должен это знать. There is a good reason why/ It is a good reason that/ it is no surprise/ it’s understandable why/ we can understand why/ that we study this vocabulary. Everyone knows/ It’s perfectly clear to everyone/ It’s an open secret that the interpreter/ translator should know them.
