Prepositions in Relative Clauses

We don’t normally use prepositions before relative pronouns. The office in which he works is close to the National Bank, (formal-not usual)

The office which he works in is close to the National Bank, (usual)

The office he works in is close to the National Bank, (more usual)

Rewrite each of the following sentences in two other ways as in the examples above.

5 That’s the room where we keep our supplies.- That`s the room in where we keep our supplies. That`s the room we keep our supplies in.

Which and whom can be used in expressions of quantity with of (some of, many of, half of, both of, a few of, several of, none of, etc.)

She received ten letters. Some of them were from England. She received ten letters, some of which were from England.
