Project: The city of Buxtehude is situated in the metropolitan region of Hamburg, near by the river Elbe. Since middle ages, Buxtehude is part of the Hanseatic League, a north European union of trading towns. Once it was a rich place and it is still an attractive city, which invites you to stroll and discover the picturesque old town.

Buxtehude is known as a “fairytale town” and has a high profile through his stories. Who does not know, the story of the "race between hare and hedgehog" (in other countries also know with other animals) or has not ever the "dog that barks with the tail" part? The connection of this story has meant that many people believe, Buxtehude exists only in fairy tales. The city can be counted as one of the most important fairytale cities, it is an attractive destination for tourists, traveling along the “German Fairy Tale Road”.

From the 22th of October until 30th of October there will be a fairy tale festival with many events like concerts, storytelling and theatrical performances in Buxtehude. Therefor the town hall offers the first international fairy tale workcamp in Buxtehude: Volunteers of the workcamp are invited to develop a fairy tale as a play and perform together in Buxtehude on the occasion of international fairy tale festival. Organizers and supports are working as volunteers and are supported by the municipality.

Work:The idea of this Workcamp is to invite visitors to an “international fairy tale without borders”. Volunteers are invited to devise a program for the encounter with fairy tales and implement this. It would be nice if you bring fairy tales with you, which you know from your homes or you learned as children. We would like to have an exchange about the various experiences with the fairy tale. Volunteers can set up a fairy tale known in their country. It should be creative and funny… You have one week to prepare the fairy-tale with professional guidance and things you will use for. If you need materials, it will be provided by the municipality. Fairy-tale should be appropriate for children and for adults as well.

Study Part: Learning about fairy-tales of the world and to learn how to create a theatrical performance.

Environment:The Hanseatic city Buxtehude is an independent municipality on the southern edge of the Altes Land in the district Stade in Lower Saxony. Buxtehude is located in the metropolitan region of Hamburg and "Altes Land", Europe's largest fruit growing area. Fruit from Altes Land is well-known throughout Germany, especially the apples. You can already recognize the Port of Hamburg, the city is as near.
