The English we learn.

1. English is the most widespread language in the world.

5. It has the largest vocabulary with approximately 800,000 words, terms and phrases.

Kemerovo State University.

1. Kemerovo State University was founded in 1974.

2. The university has branches in four Kuzbass cities and Ulan-Bator and provides teaching at the Institute of Distant Education.

3. Twelve faculties of the university train about 22,000 students.

4. The students are admitted to the university on the basis of their results in entrance examinations.

5. Usually there are several applicants for every place at the university.

6. Tuition is mostly free of charge but some students study on a contractual basis.

7. Students do not pay for using books for laboratory work and teaching aids.

The faculty of mathematics.

1. The Mathematics Faculty is one of the oldest and biggent in the University.

2. About 700 full-time and part-time students study at the faculty, which trains students in three specialities: Pure Mathematics, Applied Mathematics and Informatics, Software Engineering and Management of Information Systems.

3. The Dean of the faculty is assisted by Sub-Deans responsible for academic affairs, student affairs, external education and information technologies.

4. The academic staff totals about 80 highly gualified lecturers, assistant professors and professors.

5. The teachers of the faculty give lectures and seminar classes, supervise their course and diploma papers.

6. The university teaching and professors combine teaching with research.

7. Most of them have scientific degrees-Doctor or Candidate of Science.

4. Two of the most popular are Firefox and Microsoft ‘s Internet Explorer.

5. Invention of modems, special devices allowing a computer to send the information through the telephone line, has opened doors to the Internet for millions of people.

6. Nobody knows exactly how many people use the Internet today, because the number of users is growing.

7. Nowadays the most popular Internet service is e-mail.

 

Programming language.

1. Programming is the process of prepating a set of coded instructions which enables the computer to solve specific functions.

2. The essence of computer programming is the encoding of the program for the computer by means of algorithms.

3. The programs are lists of instructions that will be followed by the control unit of the central processing unit.

4. There are two common techniques for planning the logic of a program.

5. The first technique is flowcharting.

6. The second techniques for planning program logic is called pseudocode.

7. The process of writing program instructions is called coding.

8. The instructions must be written according to a set of rules.

9. These rules are the foundation of a programming language.

 

Timothy Berners-Lee.

1. Timothy Berners-Lee was born in London.

2. From an early age, he was fascinated by both mathematics and electronics.

3. As a physics student at Oxford, Berners-Lee continued to tinker with electronic devices.

4. He had already begun devising his own computer languages.

5. He found his services as a computer programmer in immediate demand.

6. Berners-Lee took a job at Image Computer System, developing graphics and communications software and a generic macro language.

7. Berners-Lee proposed a global hypertext project.

8. Berners-Lee wrote the ‘hypertext transfer protocol’ (HTTP) for transmitting documents over the Internet.

9. He created the first web browser.

 

Writing business letters.

1. Writing business letters is very important for normal business activity.

2. Nowadays writing letters is more popular than ever before due to the Internet.

3. The typical business letter consists of the following standard parts: the heading, the inside address, the greeting, the body of the letter, the complimentary close, the signature.

4. The heading contains the name of the company, the postal address, the telephone numbers, the number of fax and e-mail address.

5. The inside address is the address of the person or company receiving the letter.

6. The greeting follows two spaces below the inside address.

7. The body of the letter contains a message.

8. The complimentary close is a way to express respect.

9. A letter on paper should always be signed by hand and in ink, because a signature is a personal mark of the author.

 

Applying for a job.

1. To apply for a job you are interested in, it is necessary to convince the prospective employer of your ability to do this job well.

2. The first thing you should do is to prepare a resume.

3. A well-composed resume will make the prospective employer understand what abilities make you a suitable person for a particular job.

4. If you interest the employer he will invite you for an interview.

5. To make a good impression on the interviewer it is important to find some information about the company you are going to work in.

6. Interviewers can’t check applicant’s professional skills immediately so, the first thing they are attracted to is the agreeable personality and friendly attitude of the interviewee.
