Leisure Time

Leisure time is the time when people don’t work and they do what they really like to do.   Some people are passive in their leisure hours. They prefer to stay at home. As a rule, they watch TV, read something or … just sleep. They seldom go out.   For the other people their leisure hours are full of activity. They like to meet friends, to have parties. They like going out – to the cinema, to the theatre, to some museums. And rather often these people have some hobby.   A hobby is a kind of activity which people do in their free time. People choose a hobby for relaxation, pleasure, or for development of new interests. Аlmost any kind of leisure activity can become a hobby.   Hobbies can be divided into four groups. They are the arts, collecting, handicrafts, games and sports.   There are such art forms as dancing, drama, painting, music. Each art form has many possibilities for a hobby.   Collecting is probably the most widespread kind of hobby, because almost any thing can be collected. People collect stamps, coins, autographs, books, dolls, etc.   Handicrafts attract those who can work with their hands. For example, a lot of women like knitting and sewing.     Games and sports are popular with those who like competitions and physical activity. Thousands of people go in for sports, such as bowling, skiing, skating, tennis.   As for me, I spend my leisure time differently. Sometimes I prefer to stay at home and just relax. But more often I go somewhere. I am fond of various kinds of art and like to go to the cinema or to the theatre, to visit some exhibition.     go out– ходить куда-либо   are full of activity –наполнены деятельностью rather often –довольно часто     choose for – выбирают ради   handicrafts - ремёсла   the most widespread – самый распространённый     attract - привлекать knitting and sewing - вязание и шитьё competitions -соревнования go in for sports занимаются
