Let me introduce my staff to you. This is my secretary.

- Call me Ann.

- It’s nice to meet you.

This is Mr. Kohl/ Mr. Hill (Finance Department).

- We have already met.

- Have you met Mr. Nur?

- I haven’t had the pleasure.

General Manager (GM): Would you like to take a seat? / Do sit down, please / Take a seat. Make yourself comfortable (at home). A cigarette? / Do you smoke?

- (Thank you) No, I don’t. Smoking is bad for health.

GM: Right you are. What would you like to have? / Would you like something to drink? Tea, coffee, juice.

- I’d like a cup of coffee / I prefer tea (instead).

GM: Ann, please make coffee for us.

Secretary (S): Certainly. Black or (white) with milk? With sugar or without sugar?

- No, thanks.

GM: Please, taste it / try it (biscuits). Did you enjoy the trip?

- I enjoyed the trip.

GM: Where are you staying?

- At Shivalik Hotel.

GM: How do you like it?

- It’s very comfortable.

GM: It’s the best hotel in our city and it’s close to the office. And you can even walk.

- Walking is good for health and it’s nice to see the city.

GM: What are your first impression?

- It’s a beautiful city.

GM: How do you like the weather?

- It’s a nice day.

GM: I’m glad you like it. And what sort of weather are you having in your country now?

GM: How do you find breakfast (lunch)?

- It was really fine.

GM: How are long are you here for?

- A week or so. It will depend on the progress of the talks (discussions). I am ready (prepared) to discuss the main principles of the Contract with you in detail.

 

- We will have to wait for GM to finish. Where are you staying?

- At … hotel. Do you know what it is like?

- I’m afraid I don’t know. I’m a stranger here myself.

- What is the hotel like?

- It’s fairly expensive but it’s good. We usually put our visitors up there.

- How do I get there from your Co?

- Well, normally, the best way is by bus.

- I see. How long does it take?

- About 15 minutes. May be more in rush hour.

- You could rent/hire a car.

- How much does it cost?

- It depends on a car. Don’t worry. The Co. is hiring a car for you. We’ve got the forms for you to sign. The driver is at your disposal. He’s waiting for you. He will bring you to the hotel.

- Thank you very much indeed. By the way, do you know any good restaurant near the hotel?

- The Peacock, an excellent one. It’s almost next to your hotel.

 

Our Co. is not big but we are very efficient.

- How many people do you employ?

- Around (approximately) two thousand people. We are extending our business. Our Co. produces (manufactures/provides) advanced technology (efficient service). We are interested in buying your equipment.

- Would you like to speak a little (bit) slower? I’d like to visit your factory (plant).

GM: I’ll show you our plant tomorrow. By the way, what are you by profession?

- I’m an engineer. But I work for the Co. as a senior manager.
