Introduction

Diseases of the head and neck - a discipline that studies the peculiarities of the clinical examination of dental patient with inflammatory diseases of the soft tissues of the maxillofacial region (abscesses and phlegmons) and their complications, diseases and injuries of trigeminal and facial nerves, inflammatory and dystrophic diseases of the temporomandibular joint, providing outpatient and inpatient surgical dental care to patients.
The discipline of "Diseases of the head and neck" is designed to prepare students of the faculty of dentistry for further training at the clinical departments and the mastery of skills of a dentist of General practice through the formation of medical of behavior and thinking, and skills that provide the solution of professional tasks of the surgeon-dentist.

The purpose of the discipline.

Training of a dentist, able to provide surgical care to patients with traumatic injuries, with defects and deformations of the tissues of the maxillofacial region, temporomandibular joint (ankylosis) and contractures of the lower jaw.

2.3 Learning objectives:

1. to give knowledge of the principles of the organization of delivery of dental care to people with abscesses and phlegmons of the maxillofacial area;
2. to form a view about the role of discipline "Diseases of the head and neck" in the preparation of a dentist;
3. to teach basic and advanced methods of examination of dental patient with abscesses and phlegmons of the maxillofacial region, diseases of the nerves of the face and temporomandibular joint;
4. to give an idea about the basics of medical deontology, the symptomatology, the diagnosis of major surgical dental diseases;
5. the development of students methods of treatment of abscesses and phlegmons of the maxillofacial area diseases of the nerves of the face and temporomandibular joint;
6. to teach basic professional manual skills of the surgeon-dentist in ambulatory conditions (in phantom).

Outcomes

Generate knowledge on:

1. clinics, principles of diagnostics and treatment neoantigenic inflammatory processes of the maxillofacial area;
2. clinics, principles of diagnostics and treatment of specific inflammatory diseases of the face and neck manifestations of AIDS in oral and maxillofacial region.
3. clinics, principles of diagnostics and treatment of abscesses and phlegmons of maxillofacial area and their complications;
4. clinics, principles of diagnostics and treatment of lesions of the trigeminal and facial nerves;
5. clinics, principles of diagnostics and treatment of inflammatory and dystrophic diseases of the temporomandibular joint;
6. the method of surgical treatment neoantigenic and odontogenic inflammatory diseases of the head and neck.

To form skills:

1. diagnostics of inflammatory diseases of the head and neck, inflammatory and degenerative lesions of the temporomandibular joint, diseases of the nerves of the face;
2. plan of complex treatment of inflammatory diseases of the head and neck, inflammatory and degenerative lesions of the temporomandibular joint, diseases of the nerves of the face;
3. to determine the indications, conduct the selection of the optimal method of anesthesia and surgical interventions for inflammatory diseases of the head and neck;
4. surgery for boils of the face.
