Then he saw forty men riding towards him. They stopped near the tree and took some bags off their horses. The bags were very heavy because they were full of gold. The men were thieves. They went up to a rock, and the captain said, “Open Sesame!” Sesame was a magic word. A door opened in the rock. All the thieves carried their bags through the door and into the cave. He put wood on top of the gold to hide it. Then he said, “Shut Sesame!” The door shut, and Ali Baba went home. He showed all the gold to his wife. Ali Baba had a brother called Cassim. Cassim was rich and greedy. His wife was rich and greedy too. Ali Baba’s wife went to Cassim’s house. “Please may I borrow your scales?” she asked. “Yes.” replied Cassim’s wife. She wanted to know why Ali Baba needed the scales. So she put some fat on them to make them sticky. Ali Baba’s wife took the scales home. She did not know that there was fat on them. Ali Baba’s wife weighedall the gold, and Ali Baba dug a hole in the garden and buried it. “Now we are very гісh he said. Cassim’s wife saw the piece of gold. “Look.” she said to Cassim. “Where does this come from?” Cassim went to Ali Baba’s house, and asked Ali Baba about the gold. Ali Baba told him about the cave and the thieves. “I’ll go and fetch some gold .” said Cassim. The next morning Cassim took ten donkeys and put big chests on their backs. Then he went to the cave. He cried: “Open Sesame!” and the door opened. Cassim went in, and the door shut. He put a lot of gold by the door. Then he cried, “Open Barley!

The door didn’t open because it was wrong word. Cassim had forgotten the magic word. He could not get out of the cave. Later the thieves came back, and they saw Cassim’s donkeys. “Who’s stealingour gold?” they cried. Then they went to the cave. The captain opened the door, and they all saw Cassim. house.” The thief went to the house and made a cross with white chalk on the door.

The thieves fetched forty oil jars and twenty donkeys. They put oil in one jar. A thief climbed into each of the other jars. “Stay there.” said the captain, “until I tell you to come. The donkeys carried the jars to town. The captain took the donkeys to Ali Baba’s house.

“Please may I stay here for one night?”

“Yes, of course”

“May we put the oil jars outside the back door? ”

“Of course. Would you like some supper? ”

“Yes. I see there is no oil at home! ”

“Do you have some? ”

“Yes, tell your wife to go outside and take some oil

She went to the first jar and lifted the lid.But … there was no oil in the jar. There was a thief in it.

“Can I come out? ”

“No.”

“Can I come out? ”

She went to thirty-nine jars, and they all had a thief inside. In the last jar there was some oil. “What’ll I do? I have an idea .” She took some oil for the lamp. Then she filled a big kettle with oil, and put the kettle on the fire. When the oil was very hot, she took the kettle and pouredsome hot oil into the first jar. It killed the thief. Ali Baba’s wife poured hot oil into the second jar. The hot oil killed the second thief. So she killed all the thieves. The captain didn’t know anything about his men.
