TEXT 1
Only a few months ago I was a schoolgirl (schoolboy). Now I am a first-year student of the Cherepovets State University. I study at the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics. After I had left school in June, I began to prepare for my entrance exams. I had to take three exams and passed all of them with good and excellent marks.
In five years I shall graduate from the University and work according my speciality. At present we have a lot of work as we have different subjects: Mathematics, Physics, Russian, English, History of Our Country and so on. My working day begins earlier then before. I get up at 7 o'clock, wash myself and have breakfast. Then I dress myself and go to the University on foot, or by bus. It takes me 15 - 20 minutes to get there.
Teaching at the University combines lectures, seminars and practical classes. The most important thing for us is to have a good knowledge. To improve it we write tests and take part at students' scientific conferences.
English is taught for two years. English is the major international language of communication that is why good knowledge of English is of great importance now. At English classes we study grammar, learn topics, read texts and do a lot of exercises. I was not so good at English at school and now I must work hard at it to catch up with the group. I usually read up for the classes at home. To prepare for the seminar I go to the library but more often I use the Internet.
In the evening when I have a free time I watch TV or video, listen to music but more often I'm busy in reading books. On weekdays I attend lectures and seminars, do my preparations for practical classes. On weekends I have a rest, meet my friends, go to the cinema or disco and help my mother to do the flat.

TEXT 2
I am Kovalenko Katya. So, I am a student now. I’m a first-year student of the day-time department. I’ve entered State Academy of Ukraine after finishing a secondary school. You know, that was my dream to enter this Institute. No wonder, as all members of our family are economists.
My father taught me to understand and love mathematics. I realize now mathematics is a corner-stone of all sciences. My father works as a financier at the Planning Economic Department of the plant.
My mother is a book-keeper at a book-keeping department of the factory. She likes her specialty very much. I love my sister. She is twenty. And she is also an economist. She works as a cashier at the post-office savings-bank. She combines her work with studies at the Institute. She is a second-year student of non-resident instruction at this Institute.
As you see, I took my parents way. I worked hard to pass my entrance examinations well. And now I’ve become a happy member of the great, young family of students. Many new things and notions came into my life with it. At first, I didn’t know what they meant. Now I became familiar with such words as “a freshman”, “a sophomore”, “an undergraduate” and such terms as “a period”, “a seminar”, “labworks”. I know what it means “to make notes”, “to pass thousands”, etc.
I’m still to know more, and first of all how to save time to be able to not only study well, but to take an active part in the students’ life, to join some students’ scientific society and to sing in our Academy choir, to become a member of our Academy famous football team and to visit interesting students’ evening-parties.
I’m fond ofeverything at my Academy. I like its great beautiful building, sport complex, it’s lecture halls, laboratories, studies.
I’m a freshman, as they call the first-year students. It’ll take time to know everything about our Academy.
