Lesson 5. Are you a fashionista?
Ex. 1. a) Look at the people in the pictures 1 to 5. Which one(s) would you describe as a fashion victim, trendy, smart, scruffy, old-fashioned, casually-dressed, unconventional, well-dressed, badly-dressed.
b) Are you fashion-conscious? What style of clothes do you prefer? To answer these questions the test will be rather helpful. Do the following test:
c) Count the number of YES answers and check your results. How far do you agree with the description of your style? Try to predict your partner’s answer to see how well you know his/her style.
10-15: Congratulations! You’re a style guru! You’ve discovered how to look your best with the least amount of time, energy and worry. You know the latest trends and how to make a fashion statement without becoming a fashion victim! You maintain a classic wardrobe and you are always well-dressed. You are definitely an inspiration to others!
5-10: Good! Your life doesn’t revolve around fashion but you’re aware of it and always look good. You have your own style and prefer to wear what you feel good in rather than what the magazines say. You can be cool and trendy at times, but you prefer to be carefree and casual. Be careful of becoming boring and predictable, though.
0-5: Oh dear! You’re really not very aware of fashion at all and to be honest you don’t care either. You are rather conventional and will never be a trend-setter. You could try to be more flexible in your attitude and wear an eye-catching colour occasionally. Others may treat you differently, because you’re not fashion-conscious. Don’t worry though – it’s their problem, not yours.
Ex. 2. Discuss the following questions:
§ Do you think there's a difference between" fashion» and "style»?
§ Have you ever bought imitation brand clothing?
§ Do you think that the clothes we wear reflect our inner world?
Ex. 3. Translate the following into English:
1. Я завжди слідкую за модою, тому я стильно одягаюсь. 2. Довгі туніки сьогодні у моді, хоча декілька років тому вони не були модними. 3. Міні-спідниці завжди будуть в моді, але в навчальному закладі потрібно дотримуватись дрес-коду. 4. Вона є жертвою моди. Тільки подивіться на неї: різнокольорове волосся, п’ять сережок у вусі і ще по одній на язику і в пупку, татуювання. І це ще не все: кислотно-рожеві легінси на кривуватих ногах, громіздкі туфлі на тракторній підошві, мереживна спідниця і яскраво-жовтий топ у квіточку! 5. Шалі вийшли з моди. Жінки сьогодні носять шарфи чи хустинки. 6. Я слідкую за останніми трендами та купую дизайнерський одяг. 7. Я вважаю, що одяг у першу чергу повинен бути зручним, тому мене не дуже хвилює «фірма». 8. Розпродаж мене не цікавить. Ціни на одяг знижуються, але якість бажає бути кращою. 9. Діти в школі змушені носити форму, що не дозволяє їм проявляти свою індивідуальність. 10. Офісні працівники зажди одягнені по-діловому, тож їх важко назвати законодавцями моди.
