Department of Laser Systems

 

The Department offers Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Engineering Physics and Engineer’s degree in Laser Systems.

The major subjects taught are Physics; Mathematics; Computer Science; Electronics Quantum Mechanics; Statistical Physics; Experimental Physics Methods of Laser Physics; Physics of Optical Phenomena; Physical Optics; Applied Laser Physics; and many others. Special attention is paid to the study of English, Fundamentals of Economics, and Management.

Master students are given additional lectures on Special Chapters of Physics and Technology of Charged Particle Accelerator Technique, and Accelerator Magnetic Systems.

From their third year in the program, students are given lectures, practical and laboratory classes at the Institute of Nuclear Physics.

In accordance with the curriculum, students are offered courses in Physics and Mathematics as well as in Computer Science, Theory and Technology of Physical Experiment, Computer Graphics and Design. Humanities are also taught, including elective courses. Much attention is paid to laboratory classes, including Nuclear Physics Experimental Methods, “Technical Facilities for Automatization of Scientific Research”, etc.

FACULTY OF RADIO ENGINEERING, ELECTRONICS,

AND PHYSICS

The Faculty was formed on the basis of the Radio Engineering, Physical Engineering, and Electronic Engineering Faculties in October 1993. One of the advantages of this joining is to provide students with an opportunity to more precisely choose the area of specialization. The faculty gives training in a wide range of fields, and one can easily chose the subarea he/she wants to explore in depth.

The Faculty introduced the multilevel system of education awarding B.Sc., M.Sc. and Engineer's degrees. During the first two years of study students mostly gain basic knowledge necessary for their further professional training and education. They study general engineering subjects, including profound study of mathematics and physics, and some humanities as well. A foreign language, preferrably English, is also included in the curriculum. In their third and fourth years students acquire professional knowledge and skills in the field chosen. Those who successfully complete their course work and pass the qualifying examinations are awarded B.Sc. (Bachelor of Science) degree in the appropriate field. The graduates from the B.Sc. program can continue their studies in the Engineer's or M.Sc. programs (1.5 and 2 years correspondingly).

For graduates from engineering colleges, the Faculty provides accelerated training (3,5 years) in the fields of "Semiconductor Devices and Microelectronics" and "Radio Engineering".

The major directions of training are as follows.

 

Radio Engineering

 

The field is Radio Engineering. Radio engineer designs, maintains, and operates all types of industrial, scientific, and household radio equipment, including computers and audio and video systems.

Students are offered the following areas of specialization:

- receiving devices and transmitting equipment;

- television systems and household (radio)electronics;

- image and signal processing in radio engineering systems;

- antenna-feeder devices;

- emitting systems.
