THE OUTSTANDING PEOPLE OF THE USA

The fates of many famous people of USA have very much in common. In fact, the first writer of New England's, the intense, brilliant poet and minister Edward Taylor was born in England. Modest, pious, and hard working, Taylor never published his poetry, which was discovered only in the 1930’s. He would, no doubt, have seen his work's discovery as divine providence; today's readers should be grateful to have his poems – the finest examples of 17th century poetry in North America.

Taylor wrote a variety of verse: funeral elegies, lyrics, a medieval "debate," and a 500-page Metrical History of Christianity (mainly a history of martyrs). His best works, according to modern critics, are the series of short Preparatory Meditations.

One of the most well-known writer Mark Twain, birth name Samuel Langhorne Clemens, born in Florida, Missouri in 1835, grew up in Hannibal. He was born in a year when Comet Halley appeared (1835), and also died the year it next returned (1910). He was a steamboat pilot on the Mississippi River. Throughout his career, Twain served as a writer, lecturer, reporter, editor, printer, and prospector. Twain took his pen name from an alert cry used on his steamboat - "by the mark, twain".

The American inventor, Thomas Alva Edison, was born in Ohio in 1847. His family was not rich and the boy’s education was limited to three month in the public school. When he was 12 he started work. Several years later Edison learned telegraphy and become a telegraph operator. He wanted to improve the telegraph system and worked very hard at it. After a few months of work, he built a transmitter of a new kind. This was his first important invention. The other two of Edison’s greatest inventions were the gramophone and the electric lamp. Edison believed that only work could bring success.

So did many of the famous American writers. O’Henry, for instance, a well-known short-story writer had to earn his living from the age of fifteen and he educated himself with the help of friends.

Another famous American novelist, Theodore Dreiser had to leave school and work at a factory when he was still a boy. Later he became a newspaper correspondent and then he began to write books. He wrote such popular novels as “Sister Carrie”, “Financier”, “Titan”, etc.

MY FUTURE SPECIALITY

1. I am a fourth - year student of the Vinnytsya National Technical University.

2. The right choice of profession is very important for the future of any young man.

3. I think many professions are useful, necessary and attractive.

4. But the profession of engineer attracts me most.

5. This profession requires special aptitude, deep knowledge and long training.

6. My future specialty is computer engineering (…) and I am a student of the computer engineering department.

7. Computing is the leading branch of the national economy of our country.

8. Without computing any branch of economy can’t practically exist.

9. The students of the computer engineering department must know all the latest achievements of science and engineering.

10. At the University we study a lot of things to become good specialists.

11. Technological and industrial progress depends on the scientist, the engineer and the technologist - an essential triangle.

12. The practical work of the engineer is his design.

13. He has to design products, machines and production system.

14. Like the research engineer he always asks "Why?", like the technologist he always asks "how?".

15. The engineer must combine many of the characters of the research engineer and technologist.

16. Perhaps the most important function of the engineer is to integrate the work of the scientist, the engineer and the technologist.

17. I think the theoretical knowledge and practical training will help me to be a good engineer.

18. An engineer must always master his (or her) knowledge and theoretical skills.

MY FUTURE SPECIALITY

We study the specialization of computer systems and networks. So, I think my profession in the near future will be connected exactly with computers but not only, and not always. I am interested in programming, economics, software and hardware technology.

After graduating from the University I want to hold (to fill) an office of computer application software engineer or some other related position but that’s only for the start. I do not want to spend my whole life sitting at a computer and typing on a keyboard.

I want to get a second high education may be even from our University in some management or marketing specialty. My knowledge and professional skills with the practical experience as a computer engineer will help me to get higher on the career ladder. But in the far perspective I’d like to start my own business in the computer field.

In conclusion I`d like to say that it is only my plans but the real choice of my career depends on the development of employment and the general situation on the job market.

MY FUTURE SPECIALITY

What I would like to become? This question puzzles me greatly. Every job has its elements of difficulties and interest. I think that nearly all the professions are very important in life. But to choose the right occupation is very difficult, because we must take in to consideration many factors. We must consider our personal taste and our kind of mind. At the same time we must satisfy the requirements of our society and peoples needs in one profession or another.

The end of study is the start of an independent life, the beginning of a more serious examination. In order to pass that very serious exam we must choose the road in life which will help us best to live and work. Each student has every opportunity to develop mind and use knowledge and education received at high school. Some may prefer to work in factories or works, others want to go into construction: to take part in building power stations and new towns. Many opportunities to work and to satisfy at the same time the requirements of the society and your own personal interest are offered in the sfere of the services transport, communications and many others.

I have a specially liking for to become a programmer. I like this profession because it is very interesting and popular now.

MY FUTURE SPECIALITY

I study at the Vinnytsya National Technical University. My specialization is software of computer-based systems and Web design (computer systems and networks)/Information Protection. I’d like to say I began to think about my future profession when I was a little boy/girl. Since then my plans changed many times. But when I saw a computer for the first time, I decided to dedicate my life to studying computer science.

A system engineer /………/ deals with development of new types of computer software. To design new software for computers one must know the following subjects: mathematics, hardware, programming, English and many others. It is necessary to know many programming languages and keep track of fast changes in the sphere of computer science and tools of software design.

One must know not only the software but also hardware. So I study computer devices, low level and high level program languages, data base management systems.

I’m sure that my future profession will be connected with the English language because English is very popular now and the majority of software products are in English. Knowledge of English helps me to operate computers freely, to read manuals on computer hardware and newspaper and magazine articles.

In conclusion I’d like to say that the profession of a programmer (system administrator /………/ is very important nowadays. Many new industries are being developed now and they need skilled specialists. In the near future a computer is likely to come into every house and every office. This profession is not only interesting but also useful for people and attracts me most of all.
